Course Overview
The General Purpose (GP) Rating course is a 6-month pre-sea training program approved by the Directorate General of Shipping, Government of India, designed to prepare candidates for rewarding careers at sea. This course trains individuals in both deck and engine room tasks, enabling them to serve as versatile crew members onboard merchant ships. The GP Rating course offers a direct path to grow from a trainee seaman to officer ranks, including Chief Engineer or Captain, with experience and further certifications.
Duration: 6 Months
Course Structure & Training
At CMC, cadets undergo hands-on training using a state-of-the-art Ship-in-Campus infrastructure. This includes:
- Operation and troubleshooting of main and auxiliary marine engines
- Engineering workshop practice for fabrication and repair
- Deck operations, seamanship, and safety drills
- Soft skill training, discipline, physical fitness, and teamwork
Career Path
After successful completion, candidates are issued: INDoS Number, CDC, Course Completion Certificate
