BridgingCourse for Existing Electrical Officers to ETO

Course Eligibility :

  • All those Indian seafarers who have completed 1 (one) year of sea service as Electrical Officers prior to 1st January 2012 are required to appear only for oral examinations for obtaining ETO CoC. These candidates are neither required to appear for written papers of the ETO examination nor need to undergo any training courses such as Bridging Course.
  • All those Indian seafarers who have completed 1 (one) year of sea service as Electrical Officers prior to 1st July 2013 is required to attend a 3 (three) weeks Bridging Course for the existing Electrical Officers and thereafter appear for the ETO Oral examination for obtaining the ETO CoCs. These candidates are not required to appear for written papers of the ETO examination. It is to be noted that the transition period as per the STCW Convention provision is applicable to the Electrical Officers, who have sailed prior to 1st July 2013 but not to the Trainee / Assistant Electrical Officers. Any other candidate (Trainee / Assistant Electrical Officer or any other nomenclature of Electrical Officer not having performed independent duty as Electrical Officer) will fall under category (iii) as mentioned below. The designation of Assistant Electrical Officer / Electrician / Electro Technical Officer etc., will be considered as Electrical Officer for the purpose of Electro-technical Officer’s assessment and examination, if the company certifies that the seafarer has performed independent duties of Electrical Officer and was not assistant to another Electrical Officer in performing duties of an Electrical Officer on board a ship.
  • Existing Electrical Officers not falling under the category mentioned above at (i) and (ii), but have sailed prior to 1st January 2015, for a period of 12 months as Electrical Officers are required to attend 4 months pre-sea. ETO course and thereafter appear for written and oral examinations to obtain their CoCs as ETOs. This category of Indian seafarers, however, will be allowed to appear for the 4 months pre-sea ETO course, irrespective of meeting the eligibility criteria of age, educational qualification etc., as stipulated in the said STCW Training Circular No. 1 of 2011 dated 10.02.11 of this office.
  • All other Electrical Officers having performed sea-service on or after 1st January 2015, as Electrical Officers, Assistant Electrical Officers, Electro-Technical Officers, Electrician, Trainee Electrical Officer etc., will have to meet the educational qualification and age requirements as stipulated in this office said STCW Training Circular 1 of 2011 for the ETO certification. Course Description :

With the growing trend for unattended machinery spaces and the growth in electronic control systems,the need for Electro Technical Officers has evolved over the last few years. With the growth in thecomplexity of the systems employed onboard modern vessels today there is a requirement for aspecialist who is dedicated to this role. This course is designed as per the guidelines of STCW code (2010 amendments) for existing ElectricalOfficers to enhance their knowledge. The traditional Electrical Officers role has been integrated withmodern day requirement in Electronics Computerization, Control engineering and automation.
