- Must have completed at least 12 months of sea service as an Electrical Officer before 1st January 2012
- Required to undergo this 3-week bridging course at a DGS-approved maritime training institute
The aim of the Bridging Course for Existing Electrical Officers is to enable eligible electrical officers to obtain the Certificate of Competency (CoC) as Electro-Technical Officer (ETO) in accordance with Regulation III/6 of the STCW Convention 2010.
ETOs play a critical role onboard, being responsible for the maintenance and repair of electrical, electronic, automation systems, including radio communications and electronic navigation aids on merchant ships.

All other candidates who do not meet the above must pursue the full 4-month Pre-Sea ETO Course as per DGS norms.
